OBJECTIVES

  • Examine the importance of skillful communication in providing effective leadership.
  • Learn and practice interaction skills to help achieve critical business objectives while maintaining positive relationships.

AGENDA

Traditional Leaders versus Motivational Leaders -
Traditional leaders maintain the status quo and motivational leaders encourage and build commitment. This is a self-assessment to help participants evaluate their approach.

The Process for Building Commitment -
The most effective interactions are characterized by two components - logic and respect. An introduction to the process is presented.

Principles for collaborative interaction -
Show respect, empathize, seek input, give helpful feedback, and offer support . These are overviewed with discussion, video examples and exercises
.

Case Study -
Participants read a case and watch a video of the leader resolving the conflict.

Putting the Skills into Action -
Through skill practices, participants practice the principles in situations they find challenging.
